Nigeria as a country boosts of several millions commercial Transporters made up of Taxi drivers running within States, Cities, Townships and rural areas. This includes Lorries, Ferries, Airplane, Trains, Canoe, Taxis, Motorcycle riders popularly called Okada, and other means of mobility.
In Nigeria as a whole, the transport sector has proven to be the most potent and busiest sector with huge financial and human involvement. Since 1993, the transport sector has proven effective in bringing governance to stand- still whenever they choose to go on strikes. This is because the sector is responsible for the constant movement of humans, goods and services from one location to another.
The financial involvement in the transport sector alone is over 50o Billion Naira daily being costs of fuel, Fares, wages, Tickets & Permits, Repairs, spare parts, documentation and transport fares.
As a result of increase in population and subsequent needs of the society there has been a very great increase in the number of Transporters which make the sector a major provider of labour and employment.
This increase has indeed brought an increment in their groupings in form of Transport Unions with the different Unions sometimes behaving as if they aren’t of the same stock. There is an urgent need to forge unity among the different Unions so as to be able to achieve common goals.
The Maiden Edition of the Game was held 2017 in Abeokuta, the Capital city of Ogun State and it recorded tremendous success. We indeed appreciate the Ogun State Government and the official sponsor, Premier Lotto Limited under the amiable Chairmanship of Chief Dr. Kessington Olubukola Adebutu KJW.
